Gretchen the Funny Cat

There comes a time in every desk worker's life when we need a break. Sometimes we go braindead from hours of data entry. Sometimes we get stuck in a frustrating problem. Sometimes we catch a cold that leaves us too muddle-headed to write. At these times, we turn to funny cat pictures and videos to refresh our minds.

If you are in need of a funny cat right now, allow me to introduce you to Gretchen.

Gretchen has been my therapy kitty this week as I recover from a bout of the sniffles. She likes to snuggle up and purr. She likes to look out the windows with me and say hilarious things to the wild creatures outside. She likes to hide and jump out at people with her little paws splayed out like a furry starfish. She prefers hiding places associated with nightmares and horror movies: under the bed, inside a mostly-closed closet, or behind the shower curtain.

I Challenged Us to a Dance Off

I challenged us to a dance off, and we all won! Hooray! Shiny participation statuettes for everyone!

During the past month, my daughter and I learned about the nation of Brazil as part of her Little Passports subscription. Learning about another big country in the Americas that struggles with both huge challenges and fantastic natural and cultural resources (favelas! rainforests! mermaid fandoms! gang wars! green cities! fusion everything!) helps me put things in perspective and stay hopeful that things will be okay for us here in the United States.

It has been a month of ongoing political, social, and natural disasters. Here are some things that have been going on with me:
